# In-app notifications

> Read workspace and project events in the notification center, and choose which App events you receive.

In-app notifications are managed **per member** and appear in the bell in the
upper-right corner. The **App** method is always on: you cannot turn it off, but
you still choose which events land in the **App** tab and which projects you
follow.

For how **App** and **Email** columns work on the same events, see
[Email notifications](/notifications/email).

## Open the notification center

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the bell">
    Click the bell in the upper-right corner. The tooltip is **Notifications**,
    or `{n} unread` when you have unread items.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the list">
    The popover title is **Notifications**. Events are grouped under **Today**,
    **Yesterday**, **This week**, **This month**, and **Older**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## App vs Changelog vs Invites

The notification center has three tabs:

* **App** — workspace and project events you receive through the **App**
  method.
* **Changelog** — product updates.
* **Invites** — workspace invitations.

## Unread and mark all as read

In the **App** tab you can:

* Toggle **Only show unread** to hide items you have already read.
* Click **Mark all as read** to clear the unread state for every item.

Empty states depend on the filter:

* With **Only show unread** on and nothing left to read: **No unread
  notifications** and **You're all caught up on notifications.**
* With no activity yet: **No activity yet, check back later.**
* **Configure notifications** opens your personal notification settings.

## Configure App events

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your personal notification settings">
    Click your workspace name in the upper-left corner and select **Settings**.
    In the sidebar, under **Account settings**, click **Notifications**. You can
    also use **Configure notifications** from the notification center.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review notification methods">
    Under **Personal notifications**, **Notification methods** lists **App**
    (with an **Always on** tag), **Slack**, and **Email**. You cannot disable
    **App**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose which events appear in-app">
    Under **Workspace notifications** and **Project notifications**, events are
    grouped into **General**, **Development**, and **Monitoring**. Each event
    has an **App** column and an **Email** column. Use the **App** checkboxes
    for the notification center; the **Email** column is covered in [Email
    notifications](/notifications/email).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Project subscriptions

Under **Project subscriptions**, choose which projects you follow. Search with
**Search projects…**, or use **Toggle all** to subscribe or unsubscribe in one
step. Project-level **App** events apply only to the projects you subscribe to.
