# Data regions

> Choose the United States or European Union data region when you log in or sign up for Openlayer.

Openlayer offers two data regions:

| United States  | [`app.openlayer.com`](https://app.openlayer.com) | US data region                 |
| European Union | [`eu.openlayer.com`](https://eu.openlayer.com)   | EU data region                 |

Your Openlayer account and sign-in session belong to one data region. They are not shared between
regions, so selecting the wrong region means you do not see your account.

## Choose a region

On the login and signup forms, **Data region** is the first field, above the authentication options.

1. Select the full-width **Data region** field. Before you make a selection, it displays
   **Select region**.
2. Choose **United States** (**US data region**) or **European Union** (**EU data region**).
3. Continue logging in or signing up. If you choose a different region, Openlayer takes you to that
   region's host so you can continue there.

After a successful login, Openlayer remembers the region you used and can send future visits to
`/login` to that region. You can also go directly to
[`eu.openlayer.com`](https://eu.openlayer.com) when you want to use the European Union region.
Openlayer keeps you on the European Union host unless you explicitly choose **United States**.

  During some OAuth continuation flows, the **Data region** field is not shown
  because the region is already fixed for that login.
